The French Connection
Capsule by Dave Kehr
From the Chicago Reader

For a while there, before The Exorcist and Sorcerer, William Friedkin looked like a first-rate commercial director, and this 1971 thriller about a heroin bust is solid, slick filmmaking, full of dirty cops, shrewd operators, and slam-bang action. Friedkin's close study of Raoul Walsh pays off in the justly celebrated chase sequence. With Gene Hackman, Fernando Rey, Roy Scheider, and Tony LoBianco. R, 104 min.
