Meet the Browns
Capsule by J.R. Jones
From the Chicago Reader

The pleasure of seeing Angela Bassett front and center again helps sustain this otherwise listless melodrama from writer-producer-director Tyler Perry (Diary of a Mad Black Woman). She plays a struggling single mother of three in a Chicago housing project; after learning that her absentee father has died, she drags her kids to the funeral in Atlanta and encounters her wacky southern relatives. David Mann holds down most of the comedy as Bassett's fatuous cousin, Leroy Brown, though Perry himself puts in a token drag appearance as the ass-whupping Madea. PG-13, 100 min.
