The Servant
After more than a decade spent on B-movies, Joseph Losey graduated to art films with the help of this Harold Pinter screenplay, their first collaboration of many. Dirk Bogarde is the sinister manservant who slowly corrupts his effete employer, James Fox. The film is very studied and smooth, even though it deals in sexual hysteria; it could use some of the roughness and drive of Losey's early work. With Sarah Miles and Patrick Magee (1963). |
