Comrade X
Capsule by Dave Kehr
From the Chicago Reader

A political romance based a little too clearly on the Lubitsch-Garbo Ninotchka: Clark Gable is an American reporter in Moscow who falls in love with a Stalinist screetcar conductor improbably incarnated by Hedy Lamarr. King Vidor directed from a Ben Hecht-Charles Lederer screenplay; he's clearly out of his element with the more bumptious farce material, but his direction of Lamarr was enough to attract the attention of one unlikely fan--Joseph Cornell, who devoted an ecstatic essay to Lamarr's "storm-swept beauty, fearful to behold." With Felix Bressart, Eve Arden, Oscar Homolka, and Sig Ruman.
