Monster Camp
Capsule by J.R. Jones
From the Chicago Reader
Cullen Hoback's 2007 documentary looks at the Seattle chapter of NERO (New England Role Playing Organization), whose members gather on weekends, dress up as mythical creatures, and stage battles. If this sounds familiar, you're probably thinking of Andrew Neel and Luke Meyer's Darkon (2006), which also dealt with the phenomenon of live-action role-playing games. Darkon was no great shakes, but at least it was original and provided some insight into the players; Monster Camp is an endless succession of fantasy enthusiasts talking about nothing. 78 min.
