Alsino and the Condor

Exiled Chilean filmmaker Miguel Littin (The Jackal of Nahueltoro) made this 1982 feature in Nicaragua, with financing from Mexico, Costa Rica, and Cuba. It's about a 12-year-old peasant boy (Alan Esquivel) who witnesses the horrors of war. Dean Stockwell, who played a role similar to Esquivel's in Joseph Losey's The Boy With Green Hair (1948), costars as an American military adviser who tries to befriend the child. R, 89 min. Screening by video projection from a second-generation VHS copy.
